Today offers opportunities to experience vulnerable authenticity and exposure to a necessary but hidden self (a diplomatic phrasing perhaps). Let yourself have fun and acknowledge when the ugly truth or shame appears without it redefining everything. It’s one moment. The Mortar & Pestle is associated with Ego death and discovery in the Apothecary Spirits Oracle, but the day is given over numerically to the Devil, a lover of what many see as “ego.” But actually the two are related. When you strip bare the layers of consciousness and personal defenses, you see something beneath the Ego. It may be more base but also more pure in the sense of having fewer societal self-protections. It is not, however, more “true” to you than any other part; it’s just that it is truly part of you. (I think of the belief that what people say when drunk is the real them—it may show a real part of them that is hidden, but it is not the whole of them.) Find that delicate balance of acknowledging or even loving your inner demons—love helps lessen the power of fear—and letting destructive tendencies run amok.
